Who Are We?
Welcome to Nola James! We are a sewing and craft business focused on making high quality quilts and handmade gifts for all ages. Using classic and simple quilt designs, with modern fabrics, we create beautiful quilts that can be used everyday or saved as a keepsake or heirloom. Most items are constructed using natural fibers such as cotton, linen, or wool, and are pre-washed using chemical-free, textile or hypoallergenic detergent to minimize shrinkage. We use hand-made block print and batik fabric, in addition to quilting cotton and premium label fabrics, to provide you with long-lasting strength and durability for regular use. Most items are also machine washable, and scrap fabric is recycled. All items are crafted in our home studio and are crafted with the intention of creating a beautiful and memorable gift for you and your family. Hi. My name is Amber, and I'm the founder of Nola James. Quilts have been a part of my life since I was a little girl. Spending time at my grandparents house in rural West Tennesseee, I remember going to sleep wrapped in one of my grandmother's handmade quilts. I have so many memories of my grandparents house and farm, and some of the most memorable involved a quilt or two. Although surrounded by quilts in my youth, I didn't become interested in quilts and quilting until many years later as an adult. However, once I learned to quilt, I fell in love, and I was also filled with the appreciation at the skill and effort that my grandmother put into the many quilts our family used for years.
Quilts are functional pieces of fabric, or textile art. But, quilting and crafting are not just about making things, but they are about making beautiful things. Beautiful things that make us happy, that make us slow down a bit and appreciate life, and that remind us to have a little fun. At the heart of quilting, is time, because time is needed to make a quilt. Making a quilt is about taking the time to create an item that reflects love and reminds people that they are valued and loved. It is with the idea of creating items out of love, that the brand Nola James was born.
The brand name is a combination of the name of my late grandmother, Nola, and my late father, James. Two extraordinary individuals, who crafted their lives and their work with passion and love, inspired me to build on my passion of quilting.
